CT Blue 2 Member Discusses Hopes for an Obama Presidency

The Hartford Courant this weekend published six interviews with Connecticut residents discussing their impressions of Barak Obama's candidacy. One of those interviewed is Amy Lappos, Seymour, a CT Blue 2 member and active volunteer.

Amy has been helping CT Blue 2 register new voters and is currently planning a Pizza & Politics symposium on child care issues for October (stay tuned). We'd just like to say congratulations to Amy on her great interview and incisive comments!

We won't give anything away, so here's the link to the full story: http://www.courant.com/news/politics/hc-demintro0824.artaug24,0,2412441.story. Click on the picture to hear Amy's interview.

We've been registering new voters!

new voters

Volunteers from CT Blue 2 set up a voter registration table at Danbury's Charles Ives Center for the Performing Arts during the Summer Concert Series, which ended this weekend. In just two outings we registered more than 50 people from all across the state, from Norwich to New Canaan. People of all ages are registering with us.

Of course it's great to welcome new young voters into this most fundamental American privilege. But we're particularly heartened to talk with people who have decided to register this year after 20 or more years ignoring the ballot box. We also got a lot of thumbs up and "I'm registered!" shouts from the crowd.  Even better, our banner often prompted passersby to ask a friend, "You're registered, right?"  And when the answer was no, they'd be on their way over to our table.  Friends truly do get friends to vote!

CT Blue 2 will be at it again at the Danbury Irish Festival, also at the Ives Center on Sept. 5, 6 and 7.  Directions are here. If you'd like to help out, or you know of another venue that would welcome our voter registration efforts, drop us a line.Â
